- Substantial brooch centering a concave piece of Phoenician glass exhumed from the Old City of Jerusalem, glass is translucent and smoked burgundy in color with a very textured finish
- Bezel set in an ornate matte gold frame comprised of highly rendered palm trees and stylized Egyptian Revival lotus whiplash
- Depicts a scene of two imposing gold, brick textured, Egyptian pyramids, and a line of four highly rendered camels following a lone rider wandering over a stippled gold desert
- Completed by a very substantial pin stem and closure
- Tested as 14 karat gold
- Handmade by Gustav Manz as a commission by F. Walter Lawrence circa 1901
- Acclaimed "Desert Brooch" displayed at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition circa 1904
- Featured in Town & Country circa 1904 regarding the Louisiana Purchase Exposition
