Find a dry area for storage out of direct heat or sunlight, and each piece of jewelry should be stored in a separate compartment of your jewelry case. Heat and sunlight can cause discoloration in stones and oxidation in metals.

It is suggested to use cloth cases or small plastic baggies for storage. Metals can get dinged by other metals or gemstones. Even diamonds can be scratched or chipped by other diamonds, so it is a must to refrain from letting your jewelry cohabitate.

Jewelry should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing removed when coming home. This is especially true when it comes to makeup and perfumes. Stones like pearls and turquoise are porous and will absorb these chemicals.
