I have a neighbor who has become my "Aunt Gerry" and she is about to celebrate her 90th birthday! Two months later her high school Sweetheart and husband of 68 years will also turn 90. AND their wedding anniversary falls right in between their birthdays on September 1st.
Soooo, a Big Bash is being planned with the theme "It's Vegas Baby!". Everyone invited is encouraged to dress the part...Aunt Gerry will have no problem pulling it off. In her day she was a Fashionista who once went on a 10 day luxury cruise and had a different gown for each evening. When I saw the pictures, I quickly realized that her gowns were not of the Department Store variety but all-out, well-designed and super sexy (but tasteful) gala worthy beauties. As a petite brunette with a shapely build she could wear fitted gowns with sequins, tassels or whatever suited her fancy. One year for a convention she wore a super hot pair of black, sparkling mini-shorts with the most darling fitted white blouse and a broad black belt!
As I think of her, my mind is filled with thoughts of her Retro style...This glorious oversized, gem encrusted, and colorful floral themed bangle has many exemplary components of a Retro piece. It is bold and flashy yet sophisticated and exudes glamour. Even though I have no provenance to prove it, I am certain that it had its day(s) in Vegas!
Another piece that probably would have visited The Strip more than once is this Tiffany & Company diamond and ruby 18 karat yellow gold spray brooch. Full of color, large and lovely - I am certain that it would have been the perfect accessory for a night on the town.
Not wanting to overlook the fun and fanciful Retro rings, I wanted to mention this 18 karat gold diamond flower bouquet ring that includes motion - the flowers are articulated causing slight movement while it is worn. Fabulous and notable...any woman's heart's desire for her flamboyant Las Vegas outing.
