• Designed and an oval-shaped locket pendant suspending from a tapered bale
• Front of locket features a painted enamel miniature portrait
• Depicting the Greek myth of Leda and the Swan
• With a seated woman and swan along the water
• Woman is in draped clothing and holding flowers
• Accented by black star motif enamel surround
• Opens on a hinge to reveal two recessed oval frames
• One side is backed by pink cloth with glass cover
• Removable so additional materials can be framed
• Reverse of locket is engraved with the monogram 'MSV'
• Inscribed 'AUG 31 1871'
• Edge of locket is indented for easy opening
• Tested as 18 karat gold
• Circa: 1871 via dated inscription
