- Designed and an oval-shaped locket pendant suspending from a tapered bale
- Front of locket features a painted enamel miniature portrait
- Depicting the Greek myth of Leda and the Swan
- With a seated woman and swan along the water
- Woman is in draped clothing and holding flowers
- Accented by black star motif enamel surround
- Opens on a hinge to reveal two recessed oval frames
- One side is backed by pink cloth with glass cover
- Removable so additional materials can be framed
- Reverse of locket is engraved with the monogram 'MSV'
- Inscribed 'AUG 31 1871'
- Edge of locket is indented for easy opening
- Tested as 18 karat gold
- Circa: 1871 via dated inscription
- Measures: 2 3/16 x 1 1/4 inches
